Now I know that scripted "reality tv" is nothing new. Real World hasn't been real since its first few shows (which I never watched). Real life just isn't as jam-packed with ready-for-tv drama-dripped goodness as they would like you to think. The latest show to hit gold is MTV's "Laguna Beach", which cashes in mainly on the success of the "O.C." by mixing in a dose of real teens from a real high school. The only problem is the kids know they're on tv, and they can't help but act accordingly. Even that's not good enough for the directors of the show, though, and the kids are constantly told to re-act certain moments to make them more dramatic. It's not even something they try to hide. Awe contraire, they actually openly admit to it.

I guess it's not such a big deal to most people. They watch the show and google at the hot bodies and the "interesting" lives and it becomes just like any other pre-packaged over-produced show. I don't like it because it just reaks of fakeness. I'll keep to the good old fiction format, thank you very much. Character interaction is just so much more entertaining when there's no pretense. Can't wait the for the "O.C." season 3 dvds!
