Hopefully the DMV will give me another Driver's License so I can get everything else taken care of. Labels: cool The Top 5 "Best of 2005" Lists of 2005posted by Jon13:11 | SAY SOMETHING | I've been seeing quite a few of these lists pop up here and there and figured I would add one myself. So here are 5 of what I consider to be the most interesting lists of things from 2005 (in no intentionally particular order): Pitchfork: Top 50 Albums of 2005 [Pitchfork] My Fav Songs of 2005 [Irresponsible Journalism] The Bestsellers of 2005 [Barnes&Noble] Top 100 of 2005 [Rough Trade] Favorite Albums of 2005 [Donewaiting] Labels: cool 12.19.2005 | Wilco: Kicking Televisionposted by Jon10:04 | SAY SOMETHING | "I would love for more people to listen to music as a sole activity. I think it's a really transformative way that that art form can touch you. Aside from live music, which I think is really important to being human-to be a part of a crowd experiencing music-recorded music is like literature when you allow yourself to sit and listen. I mean, you know. That's all you did when you were growing up; that's all you needed to do. You found friends that could sit and be quiet and not f-in' ruin it; those were your friends, you know? If somebody couldn't do that, you couldn't hang out with them. I don't care how cool they were; they were not cool." [Jeff Tweedy interview in Paste]Wilco is a band I'd like to be more familiar with. The songs I've heard so far have been really great (I love "Heavy Metal Drummer"). This "Kicking Television" CD will be the next one I pick up. The action is intense, and the dino action in particular is way cooler than anything the Jurassic Park sequals gave us. Plus, Naomi Watts is gorgeous. Overall, while a bit long and cheesy in some places, the movie was a lot of fun. You definitely get your money's worth (even at Rave, where a ticket goes for $8 now). I had to turn on School of Rock last night, though, just to get the "serious Jack Black" out of my system. He's not that great when he's not playing himself. Labels: movies 12.13.2005 | I can think of no good title for this postposted by Jon07:55 | SAY SOMETHING | Chris and Amy leave today. I hope their trip goes well. Got tickets for King Kong tomorrow at midnight. Luke, Britney and I are going and we have 1 extra ticket if anyone's interested. It's going to be awesome (and will make more money than Narnia!). Speaking of Narnia, my dad tells me he heard on NPR yesterday that Disney's making Prince Caspian next. Makes sense. Beck's song "Girl" is really good. I first heard it when the video came on TV. I remember thinking, "wow, that's a really interesting video." Then while we were waiting for Sufjan to take the stage in Nashville, "Girl" came on the speakers along with all the other pre-show music. Then in Orlando, before Nickel Creek, "Girl" was played again. Since the song has been following me around a lot lately, I decided to go ahead and get it on iTunes. It's cool - you should czech it out. 12.06.2005 | King Kongposted by Jon11:45 | SAY SOMETHING | Some people have said this movie is better than Lord of the Rings and some have said it will probably make more money than Titanic. I'm not convinced of either claim, but listening to these clips of the movie's soundtrack make it sound real promising. All the signs are pointing to a spectacular production. Labels: movies 12.05.2005 | Last night was Tons-o'-Fun(TM)posted by Jon12:26 | SAY SOMETHING | Played Imagineiff at the Brodersens (hilarious) then had my car hijacked by some mafia dude on an island on the top of some mountains. That last part was just a dream! It was a fun night and fun was had by all. This was also one of several "last times we get to hang out with Chris and Amy" (they just keep hanging around! jk u guys rock =D). This week brings with it several days of labor and a bonfire possibly this weekend. And "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" (looking forward to that one). It's been 8 days since my last conf...er, post. Don't you feel ripped off? Labels: weird |
