Last time that happened I ended up actually going to Athens (they say there are more bands than UGA students in that town) to see them live. Well, here's another I probably wouldn't mind going to see (and they're from J-ville, which isn't too far from St. Augustine...): ![]() Labels: music 8.22.2006 | Good morningposted by Jon08:00 | SAY SOMETHING | There was a Chex piece neatly centered in each bedroom doorway this morning. I have no idea why, but there was a bag of Chex Mix next to Lonnie, so I assume the two have something to do with each other. Maybe it was a peace offering for keeping us up the other night? 8.16.2006 | la laposted by Jon11:46 | SAY SOMETHING | Meet la la, the newest chapter in social networking. La la (man, I don't like that name) is a place where you can buy used CDs for $1.75, but you have to be willing to trade some of your old CDs to do this. I'm not sure if it's a one-to-one trade, because I've shipped 5 CDs and I'm getting 6. It's pretty cool, though. Took me about 20 minutes to list my CDs and another 20 to load a few CDs I'd be interested in getting to my "Want List" and already I've got CDs coming in the mail. If you've got CDs laying around you never listen to, or if you have CDs you *do* listen to but also own an mp3 player (hint hint), this place is nice and cheap. They even donate 20% of their proceeds back to the artists, even though they don't have to. What I'm getting:
8.12.2006 | Post-Pulseposted by Jon13:35 | SAY SOMETHING | Bleh... wasn't scary at all. Scariest part was when Julie poked me in the side. Yeah I jumped. Went inside a pet store before the movie started. I had no idea you could get stingrays and murray eels. That would be way too awesome. Granted, I had just had an SUV flung at my car door at 75mph on I-75 in Jacksonville by a 15-year-old girl at the time, but I stand by that statement despite whatever state of trauma I might have been in. I could provide you with heaps upon scads of evidence to support it (I'm looking at you, Susannah and Elaine!) Some might even argue for not letting women drive at all (read Secret #9), but that could be disastrously inconvenient for us guys. Ah well, at least you're pretty to look at. PULSEposted by Jon07:52 | SAY SOMETHING | ![]() My duplex neighbor said this movie looks like White Noise to him. Whatever. The two movies couldn't be more dissimilar. White Noise was very...um...verrry...hmm. I forget.... It wasn't very memorable. Tomorrow, Pulse will start making people think differently about their computers (much in the same way The Ring made people think differently about VHS cassettes). The Japanese original was quite scary, but only because of a few key scenes (esp. the creepy walk lady). When these films get a second chance on our soil, they tend to get amped up a little (like Ju-on did when it became The Grudge), so I'm betting this one is going to be REALLY scary. Plus it's got Boone in it! 8.08.2006 | "who's looking through the mirror when your back is turned?"posted by Jon09:18 | SAY SOMETHING | I thought this was nice and creepy: ![]() Come on, who hasn't wondered what really goes on inside a mirror.... 8.02.2006 | Thought of the Dayposted by Jon12:09 | SAY SOMETHING | When you see "Motorcycle Diaries" or a (no longer cool) Che T at Hot Topic, remember that Sr. Guevara was responsible for the torture and execution of thousands of Cuban Revolution opponents and hundreds more Cuban peasants, and that the torture was more of the bullet-in-the-leg or gouged-out-eye variety, not the strip-you-naked-and-take-pictures type. 8.01.2006 | Just an old friend coming over now to visit you and that's what I've becomeposted by Jon07:48 | SAY SOMETHING | Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog, when it seemed as if a tangible white darkness shut you in and the great ship, tense and anxious, groped her way toward the shore with plummet and sounding-line, and you waited with beating heart for something to happen? I was like that ship before my education began, only I was without compass or sounding line, and no way of knowing how near the harbor was. "Light! Give me light!" was the wordless cry of my soul, and the light of love shone on me in that very hour. All you have to do is replace the word "love" with "Valparaiso", and Ms. Keller's words become a sublime example of the state of my situation as early as last week. The "move to Valparaiso" that I've been talking about for months now, while previously inevitable, was also quite a hazy and ambiguous notion without even a set date until weeks before it was to happen. It may be slightly exaggerated (and perhaps a tad unfair to Ms. Keller) to compare my move to an unseen harbor, but that sort of does a good job of explaining the helplessness I felt beforehand. Well, no longer! I've found the harbor and I am loving it. Thanks to Nathanael and Sarah for the table and chairs! Now on to the living room stuff.... Labels: valparaiso |
