Labels: stupid One last "Whoo-hoo!" for the Pullmanposted by Jon07:57 | SAY SOMETHING | 10.26.2005 | UPDATEposted by Jon16:25 | SAY SOMETHING | Because I will be computer-less for the next six days, I've decided to post a quick update so I won't have so much to catch up on when I get back next Tuesday. As you all know, I am living at my parents' now. You may send cards and flowers to the address found in the Church bulletin. No, actually it's not that bad. I have little room to work with, but my bedroom is just large enough and laid out just right for my belongings - including the TV, refrigerator, bed, computer, and all the small stuff. I actually like the way it looks a lot better than my last room at Cayo. Exposed wood all around, black stovepipe AC duct running across one side of my ceiling, nice large window. Looks very cabin-y. For some reason, the days feel longer now that I leave work at 5, even though I go into work an hour later, and the hour long drive in either direction is ALREADY old, and it's only been 2 days. But I get my mom's good cooking and a free place to stay, so it's worth it (for the moment). That's all that's going on right now. I've just been busy getting things in order up in Blackman. I'll see you in six days, although I suppose I might drop an audiopost in once or twice before then. Ciao. Labels: cool, television, weird 10.21.2005 | Today's nuggets of political wisdom (you're welcome)posted by Jon12:53 | SAY SOMETHING | The nomination of Harriet Miers and the inquiry into the behavior of Rove and Libby are two of the hottest politically flavored stories around right now. I won't bore with details on either one of them (if you don't know what I'm talking about, there is tons on each subject to read on sites like the Drudge Report), but I have a couple of quick things to say. Concerning Rove: So Rove passively confirmed the identity of an ex-CIA agent. Big deal, right? Well, I learned a year ago at the very beginning of my OPSEC training that a small piece of information that may seem insignificant on its own can actually be a revealing piece of the puzzle for foreign governments to use against us. While the name of someone who once upon a time worked for the CIA may not seem like a big deal, this information may have provided our enemies with lots of useful information. All of a sudden, everything that woman has done and everyone she has known throughout her life becomes immediately relevent to other countries. A slip like that makes me uncomfortable, and it's sad it happened at the hands (or mouth) of a Republican. Concerning Miers: Rush Limbaugh announced today on his radio program a plan for President Bush to withdraw Miers' nomination to the Supreme Court: Nominate her for Greenspan's spot! She's probably done a swell job on doing her own taxes all these years.... I am occasionally, however, exposed to a piece of an episode here and there, because my roommate Steve loves the show. Tonight, I actually watched a full episode. It appears that the cast of the fictional small town of Smallville was joined by a guy from an actual small town - Niceville. His name is Alan Ritchson, and he played "Aquaman" in tonight's episode (actually did a pretty good job). Do any of you guys know if Aquaman ended up an ally or an enemy to Superman? This episode made it seem like they were on pretty good terms, but I always thought he was an enemy.
10.19.2005 | So sleepyposted by Jon21:52 | SAY SOMETHING | LOST is getting, well, boring. I mean, I've liked each episode I've seen of this season so far. The island stuff is great. The flashbacks, however, don't seem to mean anything. Every flashback this season has revealed nothing more than what we already know. Jack fixed his wife before they married, Michael didn't want to lose his son to his partner, Locke was mad at his dad, Hurley won the lottery, and Jin was the son of a fisherman. Yawn. Destin Chef is getting ready for Food TVposted by Jon07:39 | SAY SOMETHING | Tim Creehan is planning a show where he visits a celebrity's kitchen each week and cooks using only the ingredients he finds there. Why does this interest me? I'm not sure. I'll most likely never see the show if it even happens. I'm trying this new thing where I actually comment on the links I post because context makes things more interesting. Maybe I'll do better next time.
10.18.2005 | Need to be doneposted by Jon07:09 | SAY SOMETHING | ![]() This is what my schedule looks like for the next six days. The shed at the church needs to be unloaded to make way for construction, so we're doing that tonight and Thursday night. The Mullet Festival is this weekend, but I don't expect it to be as great as the last few times (not a big Terri Clark fan). I've got two birthdays this weekend to attend also, but only one is listed because I have no idea when the other one will take place. On Monday afternoon when I leave my office for the day, I will be moving as much of my stuff as I can to my new room at my parents' house in Blackman. I'm looking forward to saving the money and having more time with my family, but there are some adjustments that have to be made (not the least of which being all that gas I'll have to buy for my daily commute). My new bedroom has no closet, so I went to Target last week to find a free-standing piece of furniture I could hang clothes on and a pair of flip-flops. The flip-flops were for the shower I will be sharing with my brothers (they are not known for keeping their bathroom clean), but for some reason I couldn't for the life of me remember what they were called. So, when I approached one of Target's "sales partners" (or whatever they call them), I asked where the shower slippers might be found. I have no idea what that girl was thinking, but she had no idea what I was talking about. So after that fleeting moment of embarrassment, it dawned on me that flip-flops would be more than sufficient, and they weren't quite as effeminate-sounding as "shower slippers". Plus they were only $2.99 for a pair. Before Monday, and inbetween the Festival and birthdays and cleaning out Trinity's shed and work and church, I'll finish packing some stuff and throwing away other stuff. It seems like no matter how much I finish, there's a ton more to do. I didn't know I had so much crap. Ah well, it will be over soon. 10.17.2005 | This would be AWESOMEposted by Jon21:00 | SAY SOMETHING | Redemption! Right.posted by Jon20:09 | SAY SOMETHING | Now I know that scripted "reality tv" is nothing new. Real World hasn't been real since its first few shows (which I never watched). Real life just isn't as jam-packed with ready-for-tv drama-dripped goodness as they would like you to think. The latest show to hit gold is MTV's "Laguna Beach", which cashes in mainly on the success of the "O.C." by mixing in a dose of real teens from a real high school. The only problem is the kids know they're on tv, and they can't help but act accordingly. Even that's not good enough for the directors of the show, though, and the kids are constantly told to re-act certain moments to make them more dramatic. It's not even something they try to hide. Awe contraire, they actually openly admit to it.I guess it's not such a big deal to most people. They watch the show and google at the hot bodies and the "interesting" lives and it becomes just like any other pre-packaged over-produced show. I don't like it because it just reaks of fakeness. I'll keep to the good old fiction format, thank you very much. Character interaction is just so much more entertaining when there's no pretense. Can't wait the for the "O.C." season 3 dvds! It seems like I hardly have time to stop and think things through. I missed church today because I couldn't sleep last night and my body is so sore from the sunburns I accumulated from the canoe trip yesterday. I spent the day going through my stuff, packing the things I can't live without, and throwing away everything else. Came across some pictures from the past... some friends have sent me in the mail, some I took while at college, some from CWSC, some from other times in the past. I had some time today, finally, to myself - to re-evaluate my priorities and to actually think about where my life is headed. This move home won't be permanent. It probably won't even last very long. But I'm hoping it will provide me with an opportunity to change certain things about my life. I know I won't have the convenience of being close to my friends, but I'll be closer to my family, and that can't be bad. I hope I will read my Bible more, and evaluate my relationship with Christ more. I hope this will provide me with the discipline and motivation I need. Friends are vital, but family is more so. This could be the turning point in a lot of ways. I had a conversation with John this evening, and we are both so far behind in our walks than we should be. The pictures I have from my time in Pensacola say a ton about where we were at that point in our lives, and make it painfully clear that while we've learned a lot since then, our actions haven't progressed all that much. As members of Trinity, and as Southerners brought up in Christian households, we really have no excuse for our actions, and God will hold us accountable. Knowing all the right words is important, but acting on them is where I need work. Pray that this move to my parents' will be the beginning of a new revitalized life for me, and that my decisions from now on out will lead me on a path that will bring me closer to Him. I need help. 10.01.2005 | Burnt to a crisp but happy about itposted by Jon17:08 | SAY SOMETHING | Thanks, Joe, for a very fun canoe trip! |
