2.06.2006 | Fun-Size Book Reportsposted by Jon13:03 | SAY SOMETHING | The cold I've been entertaining these last several days has left me with lots of time to read. This past weekend I finished Stephen King's new novel, "Cell", Chaim Potok's "The Chosen", and the first 8 chapters of Robert Jordan's "Eye of the World". "Cell" felt too much like watching a Stephen King movie three times the normal length. It has a fun premise (where anyone who begins talking on a cellphone instantly turns homicidal/crazy) and I won't be suprised if they actually MAKE it into a movie, but I bet it'll look and feel like your average zombie story, because the book sure did. "The Chosen" was awesome. Great story of the friendship between two American Jewish boys growing up during the aftermath of World War II. Tons of stuff about Jewish culture and history I did not know. Too early to tell with "Eye of the World" - I need to read further. It started out a little hokey, but it's a smooth read and pretty entertaining so far. Labels: literature |
