8.01.2006 | Just an old friend coming over now to visit you and that's what I've becomeposted by Jon07:48 | SAY SOMETHING | Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog, when it seemed as if a tangible white darkness shut you in and the great ship, tense and anxious, groped her way toward the shore with plummet and sounding-line, and you waited with beating heart for something to happen? I was like that ship before my education began, only I was without compass or sounding line, and no way of knowing how near the harbor was. "Light! Give me light!" was the wordless cry of my soul, and the light of love shone on me in that very hour. All you have to do is replace the word "love" with "Valparaiso", and Ms. Keller's words become a sublime example of the state of my situation as early as last week. The "move to Valparaiso" that I've been talking about for months now, while previously inevitable, was also quite a hazy and ambiguous notion without even a set date until weeks before it was to happen. It may be slightly exaggerated (and perhaps a tad unfair to Ms. Keller) to compare my move to an unseen harbor, but that sort of does a good job of explaining the helplessness I felt beforehand. Well, no longer! I've found the harbor and I am loving it. Thanks to Nathanael and Sarah for the table and chairs! Now on to the living room stuff.... Labels: valparaiso |
